Ciolkowska "Pistolet Budushchego"

paintelectric A band with lead ukulele? It really does work. Alesya Izlesa's rhythmic plucked sound is an (oxymoronically) varying ostinato that stabilizes Yegor Svysokikhgor's more free-form effects-focused guitar. There's something vaguely reminiscent of the improvisation of King Crimson's "Red" era here. No matter what, the band takes you into orbit like spacedogs Belka and Strelka, and brings you back again. It's a hypnotic album and I keep coming back to it again and again! Favorite track: Belka i Strelka.

Mykhailo Great mostly instrumental psychedelic-rock/space-rock band from Saint Petersburg.
Very strong reinforcement for RAIG label :). Favorite track: Belka i Strelka.

about

The band’s name – CIOLKOWSKA – refers to the ideas of “Russian Cosmism”, a philosophical and cultural movement that emerged in Russia in the early 20th century and was represented by Nikolai Fyodorov (1828-1903), Alexander Sukhovo-Kobylin (1817-1903), Konstantin Tsiolkovsky (1857-1935), Vladimir Vernadsky (1863-1945), Alexander Chizhevsky (1897-1964) and many other philosophers and scholars.

"Let us imagine a wholly isolated, extraordinary animal. No gas, liquid or other substance penetrates it. Neither can they be removed from therein. Permeating it only are streams of light…" – by Konstantin Tsiolkovsky (1857-1935)

"Ciolkowska have a flair for melody and a great combination of rhythmic pulse and hypnotic deep space drift. The musicianship, recording and production are excellent. The music is mostly instrumental with some vocals in Russian. If you like ethnic flavored Space/Psych Rock than you’ll surely dig Ciolkowska. Recommended!" – by Jerry Kranitz at "Aural Innovations" (USA)
